EMC NetWorker Modules go End-of-Life
Several legacy EMC NetWorker application modules go End-of-Sale on June 30, 2011 and will no longer be available for purchase. Newer consolidated application modules offering the same capabilities and in most cases additional features are available to use for new requirements as well as migrations and upgrades.

- End-of-Sale means that these modules are no longer available for purchase from EMC and partners.
- The NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications and NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications are currently available for purchase from EMC and partners.
- The NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications and NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications work with all currently supported versions of NetWorker server, client, and storage node.
- NetWorker users can continue to use and receive technical support for legacy application modules until the End-of- Support dates. Please see "EMC Software Release and Service Dates for NetWorker and NetWorker Modules" on Powerlink for details.
- Customers do not have to buy new licenses to upgrade. With NetWorker 7.6 and higher, existing legacy NetWorker module licenses enable operation with the newer consolidated modules after uninstalling the legacy module and installing the consolidated module.

Of course! The NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications is a consolidated add-on software package for NetWorker that includes integrated application support for all non-Microsoft applications except SAP. Included are Oracle Database, DB2 UDB, Sybase, Informix, and Lotus Notes.
Question:
I have multiple virtual machines with various applications running on a single physical server. How many NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications licenses are needed to back up all applications on all virtual machines (VMs)?
Answer:
If NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications is backing up to a NetWorker Server 7.4.3 or higher, one NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications license is required per application type running on the physical host. For example, if three VMs on an ESX server are running Oracle and two VMs are running DB2, two NetWorker Modules for Databases and Applications licenses are required. A single NetWorker Virtual Edition Client per physical host is also required.
Question: I run two applications (e.g., Sybase and DB2) on the same physical host. How many NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications licenses do I need to back them up?
Answer:
In this case, a single NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications license suffices to back up both applications.

Avamar deduplication backup is supported with all of the applications included in the NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications. Data Domain Boost is supported through the storage node.

What is the difference between NetWorker Module for Exchange and NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications?
Answer:
NetWorker Module for Exchange uses the Exchange ESE and MAPI interfaces while NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications uses VSS. NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications supports snapshot workflows, which are not supported with NetWorker Module for Exchange. NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications supports Exchange Server 2010, which is not supported by the NetWorker Module for Exchange as Exchange 2010 requires VSS-based backup.

What if I want to move from NetWorker Module for Exchange to NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications? Is this a free exchange?
Answer:
Beginning with version 7.6, the NetWorker server honors legacy NetWorker Module for Exchange enablers for use with the NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications. Customers who upgrade to NetWorker 7.6 can uninstall the older software and install the NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications without the need to change license enablers.

Can the Microsoft application server be configured as a dedicated storage node?
Answer:
Yes. With NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications 2.3 and higher you can set up the application server as a storage node and send backup data directly to backup storage to keep traffic off of the LAN.
Question: Can NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications back up from a passive Exchange Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) node or Database Availability Group?

Yes, backup can occur from the passive or active systems.

How is NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications licensed?
Answer:
With the traditional licensing model, NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications is licensed per protected host. In virtual environments, one license is required for each application type (Microsoft SQL, Exchange, SharePoint; Oracle; SAP; Hyper-V; etc.) per physical host. Any client defined for backup within NetWorker also requires a client connection license. NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications is also included in the NetWorker capacity licensing model.

What deduplication support is available with NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications?
Answer:
NetWorker Module for Microsoft Applications 2.2 and higher supports Avamar deduplication for Exchange, SharePoint, SQL, and Hyper-V. Version 2.3 and higher also supports Data Domain Boost distributed deduplication.
